The Jenner Hall complex is sited to the north of St Sampson’s Church on the former main road to Bath and comprises a former school building constructed in 1651 and a Master’s House dating from the early 1720s. Unusually for a semi-detached property of this nature the buildings have a split listing status with the Main Halls and North Porch being Grade II* and the Master’s House Grade II listed. The buildings have seen, and continue to see, a variety of community uses. From school, to Poor Law Union House, back to a school, split use as a Church Hall and domestic property and currently as Meeting Halls and Home Offices.

We have been involved with several projects, including the reroofing of all buildings with new and sound existing limestone slates, the replacement of a defective chimney stack, the provision of an additional escape door in the North Aisle east external wall and the careful conservation and enhancement of the oak-framed windows. All of the works required separate Listed Building Consent applications to be made, which we produced and obtained on behalf of the Trustees of the buildings.

We have also researched and produced a more complete understanding of the historic changes to the use of the buildings. The information derived from this research assists the Trustees in ensuring that the regular maintenance carried out on the structures is undertaken using materials sympathetic to the historic fabric.
